Dozia Joseph Wilson was born on September 22, 1945,to the late William and Catherine (Bailey) Wilson, he transitioned on August 9, 2024. He attended segregated public schools in Baltimore, Maryland before transferring to public and Catholic schools in Cape May, New Jersey. He graduated from Wildwood Catholic High School in 1964 as class salutatorian—the only African American in the class. He attended seminary schools in NJ and NY and was ordained into the priesthood in 1972. He served first in the Albany diocese as director of urban ministry, then served as pastor in Boston, Massachusetts, Rochester, NY, and then at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson, NY. While in Hudson, he served as director of campus ministry at Columbia-Greene Community College for 14 years, where he also served as the cross-country coach. From there, he worked at group homes at Pope Pius XII, and then as director of spiritual life and awareness at St. Christopher’s in Dobbs Ferry, NY. He spent his final years in Peekskill and Cortlandt Manor, NY.
Arrangements are being made through the Jeremiah Edwards Funeral Home, and a memorial service will be held later this fall.
